• German Transmission System Operators (TSO) share their wind related data with all partners of the TSO Security Cooperation
• All wind data (forecast and near-to-realtime data) available to 11 TSOs in Central Europe since August 2009
• Next milestone of TSC reached - after launch of Real-time Awareness and Alarm system (RAAS) and start of tendering for IT platform for data exchange and security assessments

Since August 2009, the German TSOs provide their wind forecast and near-to-real time data of wind generation to their partners of the TSO Security Cooperation (TSC). This allows TSOs of Austria, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland to have instantly a better and broader view of the interconnected electricity system in order to better take care of their respective responsibilities.

The European electricity system integrates more and more electricity from renewable energy sources. Particularly wind power is developing quickly in Germany and has a great impact not only on the daily operation in the main control centres in Germany but also on the loadflows and on the system operation of the TSOs in neighbouring countries.

This wind data sharing is a further important step to better manage the growing operational needs with special regard to the integration of wind energy, increasing cross-border trading and increasing electricity transport. It was implemented just after two other important milestones of TSC: the launch of the “Real-time Awareness and Alarm System” (RAAS) for Central Europe in July (which provides a global view of the status of the electricity system in eleven main control centres) and the start of a tendering procedure for an IT platform for data exchange and security assessments.

TSO Security Cooperation

Transmission System Operators (TSO) VERBUND - Austrian Power Grid AG, Tiwag Netz, VKW Netz AG (Austria), swissgrid (Switzerland), EnBW Transportnetze, transpower stromübertragungs gmbh, RWE Transportnetz Strom GmbH, VE Transmission (Germany), TenneT TSO (The Netherlands), PSE Operator (Poland) and ČEPS (Czech Republic) launched in December 2008 an initiative to foster regional European cooperation for system security in the concerned countries and in whole Europe. The involved TSOs agreed to start up a “TSO System Security Cooperation” with the aim to build up a permanent TSO Security Panel (group of security experts) and a common IT platform for data exchange and performing common security assessments. TSCs main goal is to ensure the overall system security of the European network, an area with 170 million citizens, and is open to the participation of other TSOs.
