Message from the Polish Transmission System Operator (TSO)

To ensure a balance between electricity demand and generation during the Easter holiday period, namely on March 30th, 31st, and April 1st, 2024, Polish TSO anticipates utilizing at large scale supportive operational measures. These measures include reducing electricity production from photovoltaic and wind installations.

The necessity for these measures arises from the forecasted high generation from renewable energy sources coinciding with very low demand during the holiday period. Standard measures available for the TSO are not sufficient to manage the expected generation surplus, among other due to limitations regarding technical minima’s of conventional generation sources necessary to ensure stable operation of the Polish power system. In such a scenario, surplus production from renewable energy sources exceeding electricity demand cannot be fully utilized and must be reduced.

The extent of the reduction in renewable energy sources will depend on forecasted and current operating conditions of the Polish power system, particularly the amount of electricity that will be exported from Poland based on cross-border day-ahead and intra-day market outcome.
