Nordic-Polish collaboration to open the SwePol Link for market participants in both countries
In March this year Polish and Swedish transmission system operators, PSE Operator and Svenska Kraftnät (SvK), signed a joint declaration to work for a market opening of SwePol Link, the 600 MW HVDC cable between the two countries, as soon as possible.

The declaration was welcomed by the regulatory authorities in Poland and Sweden, who will supervise the process. An important step in achieving this will be the creation of a model for the Nordic and Polish Power exchanges, Nord Pool Spot (NPS) and TGE (POLPX), to interact. Consequently the two exchanges have started work to develop such a model which hopefully will be possible to introduce in the last quarter of this year.

Market-opening of the cable will require cooperation between several main stakeholders. The cable is jointly owned by SvK in Sweden and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) in Poland. It is operated by SwePol Link AB and its subsidiary SwePol Link Poland, and currently utilized by Vattenfall (VAB) and PGE.

To enable the process to run as smoothly and quickly as possible a stakeholder group has been established and a first stakeholder meeting was held in Stockholm on April 13th.
